Cara International

Cara International is one of Ireland’s longest established in-home placement agencies with over twenty one years experience hosting, placing and training minders. Caroline Joyce, the founder of Cara International holds a BA (hons) in Social Care and a MS (hons) in Family Support, as well as numerous continuous professional development courses including coaching leadership. As part of her BA, Caroline has completed extensively researched the area of in-home care.

Caroline knows the challenges faced by minders including nannies and au pairs as she has placed thousands over the years. We have had minders contact us from online and social media placements who have been mistreatet with many not receiving their legal employment rights.

There is a lot of fake news out there and it is illegal to work without terms of employment.  At Cara International we support families and their minders through our human resource packages so you can be employed legally. If you work illegally, you can be subject to revenue fines for not declaring your income. Equally families can face fines in exceess of €4000 from revenue and the workplace relations for employing a person illegally.

We also know that minding children is a challenging and responsible job and we have designed training  packages to enable you to do a great job.

From the USA

I was so grateful that I went through Cara International. The agency ensured that I was treated and paid fairly. They did thorough background checks on both sides and set up video meetings between the family and myself before I moved over there. I felt very safe and I knew if something went wrong I had a safety net to fall back on.  Kayleigh Barrucci

They were kind and helpful. They were good about keeping communication lines open and helping you adjust to the country (telling what events are going on). Kathleen Burke

If I were to recommend any American friends to be an Au Pair in Ireland, I would recommend them to contact Cara directly –Hannah Holmes.

Minders such as Au Pairs are not just employees. They come from a foreign country, often to learn English and experience the culture of Ireland, similar to homestay students or students that stay in traditional college digs. Our minders, such as Au Pairs pay cultural homestay rates to their host families for the days they are not working or on call. Each family and Minder arrangement is agreed in advance.
